NOMINATION HIGHLIGHTS
Joshua Bartholomew is a cybersecurity analyst at Real Truck. He also founded the Fargo-Moorhead InfoSec Professionals Club. He has over 11 years of experience working in various IT fields including networking, Windows/Linux administration, and programming. Most recently, Joshua has been working in Information Security, for which he has both a talent and a passion. Some of his earliest work in this field has been to create a vulnerability management program from scratch and implement a monthly security awareness program for employees. Joshua’s activities have greatly improved the efficiency of the RealTruck incident response process.
Joshua’s ongoing career goal is to advance in Information Security with a long-term goal of becoming a CISO. His particular areas of focus include serverless security (Docker/AWS Fargate), digital forensics & incident response, and threat intelligence.
This nomination, however, focuses primarily on the work that Joshua has done in support of NDSU’s cybersecurity educational programs. Joshua gave a presentation on cybersecurity career opportunities as part of NDSU’s cybersecurity career awareness week, in 2019.
Even more notably, Joshua has provided the opportunity for NDSU students to meet numerous industry professionals through the Fargo-Moorhead InfoSec Professionals Club. He has held mixers near the NDSU campus to encourage student participation, made it clear that students were always welcome at the events, introduced the students to others participating and even worked to hold events in locations where students under 21 years old could attend.
Joshua graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from NDSU in 2018. He currently serves, on a part time basis, as an information technology supervisor drill status guardsman element with the North Dakota Air National Guard. He has served in cybersecurity related missions with the Air National Guard for 15 years.
