Overview
According to the International Powered Access Federation, the global mobile elevating work platform (MEWP) rental fleet reached 1.5 million units in 2019, and with the risk of COVID-19 looking to last many more months, rigorous control methods to reduce the risk of anyone using construction equipment will become the new normal.
In 2020 Irdeto launched a ground-breaking contactless renting and rules enforcement engine to address COVID-19 government guidance measures handed down to construction equipment operators.
First-to-market, Irdeto’s Keystone is a secure access management platform for off-highway vehicles, including forklifts and construction equipment. It makes smart rental safe and easy to use via a mobile device, enabling companies to continue healthy and safe business operations.
Keystone by Irdeto is a secure, policy-based vehicle digital key solution that leverages Bluetooth™ Low Energy technology to enable proximity-based vehicle access using a smartphone. Additionally, by supporting the emergence of shared mobility use cases, the Keystone solution serves as a significant market differentiator.
The solution provides a set of APIs for key life cycle management, policy administration and a notification engine. It also receives and validates commands from the mobile device and acts in accordance with the user’s digital key and policy, being easily integrated with major MCU platforms and providers.
Keystone Uses Bluetooth BLE to issue commands (such as open door, authorize engine start) and set vehicle preferences. A mobile SDK handles all management, security and communication, allowing app developers to focus on the user experience.
The importance of good safety and equipment hygiene to reduce the risk of personnel becoming infected has never been more top of mind for leading construction companies. Keystone provides a suite of controls helping clients with booking, handovers, operations and end of rental or daily checks, all done with good health and safety measures.
