Overview

Mindgard is a deep tech startup specializing in Artificial Intelligence (AI) security testing. The company’s mission is to empower enterprises to secure their AI systems against emerging threats that traditional application security tools cannot address.

The rapid adoption of AI and the race to develop new products have outpaced the understanding of associated risks. AI developers, for instance, face threats such as their models being stolen, tampered with, or cloned. Organizations adopting AI are also vulnerable to serious financial and reputational damage, including data leaks that can undermine business growth and market confidence. Enterprises find themselves in a difficult position as AI is essential to remaining competitive, yet the associated security risks create significant hesitation. According to Gartner, 41% of organizations deploying AI have experienced security breaches, but only 10% of internal auditors currently have visibility into AI risks.

To address these challenges, Mindgard has developed the first and only Dynamic Application Security Testing for AI (DAST-AI) solution. This technology is specifically designed to detect and remediate AI-specific vulnerabilities that only manifest at runtime. The DAST-AI solution was recently recognized as a recommended tool in the OWASP LLM and Generative AI Security Solutions Landscape Guide 2025.

As a spin-off from Lancaster University, Mindgard leverages over a decade of rigorous AI security research and strategic partnerships. Led by CEO and co-founder Dr. Peter Garraghan, the company’s R&D team has developed an advanced threat intelligence library encompassing thousands of unique AI attack scenarios.

In December 2024, Mindgard secured a new $8M funding round, bringing their total investments to over $11.6M. The latest funding was led by .406 Ventures, with participation from Atlantic Bridge, Willowtree Investments, and existing investors IQ Capital and Lakestar.
