The company traces its origins to 1996, when — as the Communications Industry Services operating unit within Lockheed Martin — it won the contract to provide local telephone number portability services to select regions in North America. The following year brought the contract to administer the North American Numbering Plan, and in 1999 Lockheed Martin spun off the unit as Neustar to ensure the neutrality of its number administration functions. Since then, the company has continued to diversify its information services through acquisitions and new technology development, and today Neustar offers industry-leading solutions in marketing, risk, communications, security and registry services.
Thanks in part to the massive datasets it manages, Neustar is one of the few companies capable of knowing with certainty who is on the other end of every internet and telephone interaction. Access to this comprehensive information enables Neustar to both help clients acquire and manage orders and prevent fraud and attacks. In 2019 alone, Neustar mitigated attacks multiple attacks over 237Gbps in our SOC on behalf of its customers.
