Overview
VMware Cloud Disaster Recovery is an easy-to-use, on-demand disaster recovery (DR) solution, delivered as SaaS, with cloud economics. It provides the reliability, ease
of use, and flexibility to support the unpredictable characteristics of disaster
scenarios. With VMware Cloud Disaster Recovery, customers get the ideal combination of cost-efficient cloud storage with simple SaaS-based management for IT resiliency at scale and a ‘pay-as-you-go’ failover capacity model — all with consistent VMware operations across production and DR sites.
VMware Cloud DR protects vSphere-based workloads, including those running on VMFS, vSAN, vVols and NFS, whether on-premises or cloud-based. We currently support VMware Cloud on AWS as a source and failover target and plan to support customers’ multi-cloud journey in the future. We support on-premises-to-cloud and cloud-to-cloud DR with RPOs as low as 30 minutes in 18 regions globally.

How we are different
VMware Cloud DR is a purpose-built Disaster Recovery as a Service solution with unique ransomware recovery capabilities. It is an ideal solution for rapid ransomware recovery as it provides the following key differentiators:
Immutable, air-gapped storage with deep history of snapshots: this is key to ransomware recovery as immutable copies of data can’t be altered by malware, preventing it from infecting existing backup copies. The deep history of thousands of snapshots days to months old allows for Long-Term Retention (LTR) and also proves essential in ransomware recovery scenarios as there is a vast library of recovery points to recover from. Continuous data integrity checks every 30 minutes also contribute to recovery readiness.
VMware Ransomware Solutions: VMware Carbon Black and VMware Cloud DR work together to provide a holistic ransomware solution, that spans across detection, monitoring and recovery. With the Next Gen Anti-Virus (NGAV) and workload behavioral monitoring in VMware Carbon Black, it is simple to identify a set of recovery point candidates, stored in the form of immutable snapshots in VMware Cloud DR’s Scale Out Cloud Filesystem. Once the recovery points have been identified, VMware Cloud DR can instantly recover those VMs through Live Mount for rapid evaluation of those candidates or run the VMs directly from the filesystem. This provides an end-to-end solution for ransomware detection and recovery operations.
Workflow automation at scale: through the cloud-based SaaS Orchestrator, VMware Cloud DR allows for recovery ranging from file-level to thousands of VMs at a time with no performance degradation.
