Overview
WatchGuard’s AuthPoint is the only cloud-based, multi-factor authentication (MFA) solution specifically built for small and midsize businesses (SMBs), and designed to eliminate common barriers that have previously kept MFA out of reach for those organizations. Until now, MFA hasn’t been accessible for SMBs due to considerable up-front expenses, complex integration processes, and burdensome on-premises management requirements that accompany most MFA solutions today, making it impossible to implement MFA technology without a large IT staff. By contrast, WatchGuard’s AuthPoint solution is delivered entirely through the cloud and can be managed from anywhere using the intuitive WatchGuard Cloud interface, which means there’s no expensive hardware to deploy and no need to install software, schedule upgrades or manage patches.
Once activated on a user’s smartphone, the AuthPoint mobile app enables them to view and manage any attempts to login into their accounts using one-time passwords, push notifications or QR code entries for offline scenarios. Additionally, the app is equipped to store third-party authenticators such as Google Authenticator, Dropbox, Facebook access, and more.
According to Verizon’s latest Data Breach Investigations Report, 81 percent of data breaches involve weak or stolen credentials, and 61 percent of all attacks target businesses with fewer than 1,000 employees. So, while multi-factor authentication (MFA) is hyper-critical for small and midsize businesses (SMBs) security – most organizations of this size lack the budget resources and security staff required to adopt such a solution. That’s where WatchGuard’s AuthPoint shines as a truly innovative and unique MFA solution.
How we are different
o AuthPoint answers the call for MFA that’s designed specifically to suit the needs of SMBs, where traditionally complex integrations and burdensome on-premises management made it impossible to implement without a large IT staff and considerable up-front expense. By contrast, AuthPoint is a cloud service, so there’s no pricey hardware to deploy, and it can be managed from anywhere using WatchGuard Cloud’s intuitive interface. What’s more, AuthPoint enables all the security benefit of MFA for just $2 or less per user, per month.
o AuthPoint relies on a mobile app to facilitate user authentication. That’s why WatchGuard has taken an innovative approach to user authentication called “Mobile Device DNA” that distinguishes cloned login attempts from legitimate ones. The AuthPoint mobile app creates personalized “DNA” signatures for users’ devices and adds them to the authentication calculation – meaning authentication messages that don’t originate from a legitimate user’s phone will be rejected.
o WatchGuard’s ecosystem offers an extensive list of integrations with third-party applications – ensuring that MFA protection is broadly applied for access to sensitive networks, VPNs, cloud applications, servers, laptops and desktops. AuthPoint provides users with a single sign on, allowing them to access multiple applications rather than keep track of individual credentials for each, and can also add third-party authenticators for Facebook, Google Authenticator and more.
