Overview
The recently-released Firebox M270 is the latest and greatest addition to WatchGuard’s line of industry-leading unified threat management (UTM) appliances. The M270 replaces the M200 as WatchGuard’s smallest rack-mounted Firebox. New Intel Atom processors with QuickAssist Technology (QAT) give the M270 significant performance advantages for customers. This enables the appliance to run all the security services offered in WatchGuard’s Total Security Suite, including the new IntelligentAV AI-based antivirus service just released in WatchGuard’s Fireware version 12.2, as well as Access Portal and DNSWatch, which were both introduced in the last year.
In third-party tests, the M270 outpaced competing products by up to 82 percent, and the new appliance adds additional memory to accommodate WatchGuard’s new services – Access Portal and IntelligentAV – on its lowest end rack mount appliance. Firebox M270 provides faster performance in all aspects of firewall and security service throughput, providing leadership in IPS and AV performance, especially when including HTTPS DPI. What’s more, the use of an Intel Denverton processor provides superior crypto processing for significantly faster VPN performance compared to other table top UTM appliances.
Like all WatchGuard appliances, the M270 comes with WatchGuard Dimension, which provides a suite of big data visibility and reporting tools that instantly identify and distill key network security threats, issues and trends so users can take immediate preventive or corrective action, and leverage predefined templates for reporting on compliance standards HIPAA and PCI.
