About the AI-Assisted Data Protection category
What belongs in this category
The AI-Assisted Data Protection category is about AI used for security, in data protection. Typical entries use AI and machine learning to find and classify structured and unstructured data, including material specific to one organization such as contracts or product designs. They tell sensitive content from similar-looking public information by its meaning and use, show the evidence for each decision, and flag repositories, languages and formats they cannot read. They connect classifications to sensitivity labels, data loss prevention (DLP) policies, access changes or remediation workflows, since spotting a sensitive file does not protect it on its own. Established machine learning models count here as well as newer generative AI.
Controlling what AI assistants and agents can reach and reveal is securing AI, a different job, and fits AI Data Security and Governance. Data protection where AI is not central fits Data Loss Prevention (DLP) for stopping data on its way out or Data Security Posture Management (DSPM) for finding and ranking stored data; a product in either with strong AI classification can enter this category too. A suite that bundles classification with DLP, posture and governance can also enter Data Security Platform.
This category matches a category in the AI Security Market Map by Cybersecurity Insiders, which describes what buyers need from these products and how to test them.

Each category is judged separately, so you can enter a product in every category that matches what it does, with a separate nomination for each. Tailor each nomination to that category's focus. Entering several related categories gives the product more than one chance to be recognized.
How entries are judged
An independent jury of security practitioners, analysts and CISOs scores each nomination on leadership, innovation and impact. Each nomination competes in its category against organizations of similar size and region, so a mid-sized firm is not ranked against a global enterprise. Your entry package, any sponsorship and public votes do not affect the jury's scores.
Strong entries in this category show:
- Leadership — the data the product protects: repositories, clouds and content types covered, languages supported, and organizations that rely on its classifications.
- Innovation — a classification problem solved in a new way, such as recognizing an organization's own sensitive documents, explaining why each file was labeled, or protection that does not block legitimate work.
- Impact — results for customers: missed sensitive files and wrong labels reduced, unnecessary blocks cut, more classifications turned into enforced policy, review effort lowered. Give figures from customers or controlled tests.
The jury awards Gold, Silver or Bronze, or a Finalist badge, and results are published on this site and announced to the 600,000+ member Cybersecurity Insiders community. Every approved nomination also enters the separate Community Choice award, decided by public votes.
How to enter
A vendor can enter its own product or service, and a PR agency can enter it on a client's behalf. The nomination form has a confidential field for detail that is shared with the judges and not published, such as customer names, deployment figures or roadmap.
