About the Secure Remote Access category
What belongs in this category
The Secure Remote Access category covers products that let people outside the organization's sites reach internal systems without opening the network to them. Typical entries give vendors and contractors access to named systems for a set time with approval and recording, give remote staff access to internal applications, and provide remote access to industrial and operational technology sites, where a maintenance connection can be a serious risk.
Per-application access after identity and device checks fits Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA), and a product that offers it can enter both. A product that gives remote access to operational technology can also enter OT Security, and a product built mainly to record sessions fits Session Monitoring and Recording. Products that vault administrator credentials and control privileged accounts across the organization fit Privileged Access Management (PAM), and a product built for privileged access by vendors can enter both.
Related categories to enter
Each category is judged separately, so you can enter a product in every category that matches what it does, with a separate nomination for each. Tailor each nomination to that category's focus. Entering several related categories gives the product more than one chance to be recognized.
How entries are judged
An independent jury of security practitioners, analysts and CISOs scores each nomination on leadership, innovation and impact. Each nomination competes in its category against organizations of similar size and region, so a mid-sized firm is not ranked against a global enterprise. Your entry package, any sponsorship and public votes do not affect the jury's scores.
Strong entries in this category show:
- Leadership — trust in demanding settings: sites and systems reached, vendors and contractors managed, customers in industry, utilities or other regulated sectors.
- Innovation — a remote access problem solved in a new way, such as access for vendors who have no accounts in the directory, approval and recording without delays, or safe access to industrial sites.
- Impact — results for customers: always-on connections removed, third-party access approved and recorded, time to give a vendor access, incidents through remote access prevented. Give before-and-after figures.
The jury awards Gold, Silver or Bronze, or a Finalist badge, and results are published on this site and announced to the 600,000+ member Cybersecurity Insiders community. Every approved nomination also enters the separate Community Choice award, decided by public votes.
How to enter
A vendor can enter its own product or service, and a PR agency can enter it on a client's behalf. The nomination form has a confidential field for detail that is shared with the judges and not published, such as customer names, deployment figures or roadmap.
