In 2021 alone, Cobalt achieved a 60 percent growth in revenue and a 53 percent growth in headcount. Cobalt achieved a record number of testing engagements in 2021, with over 2,300 pentests conducted by The Cobalt Core, a closed, highly vetted pool of security testers, and also a 53 percent increase in pentests over 2020’s already record year.

Additionally, Cobalt leaders spoke at several industry events in 2021. Caroline Wong, Chief Strategy Officer, spoke at OWASP’s 20th anniversary, and Eric Brinkman, Chief Product Officer, spoke at DeveloperWeek Austin. In 2021, Cobalt was also honored for both its overall business as well as products, including being named to the Inc. 5000 annual list of America’s fastest-growing private companies and received industry awards including Quartz Best Company for Remote Workers, Fastest Growing Cybersecurity Company and Best PtaaS Provider in North America at the Cyber Security Excellence Awards, Best Innovation in Security and Networking at the Devies, and Global Infosec Award Winner as ‘Next-Gen in Pentesting as Service (PtaaS) from Cyber Defense Magazine.

How we are different

- Headcount: Cobalt welcomed 73 new employees this year, a 53 percent increase over last year. Several strategic executive new hires were made, including Eric Brinkman as ​​Chief Product Officer, Andrew Obadiaru as Chief Information Security Officer, and Russ Cobb as Chief Marketing Officer.


- Partner program growth: Cobalt recognizes that the company’s success is dependent upon the success of its partners as well. To date, Cobalt works with nearly 80 partners to help fulfill their clients’ pentest needs. This year, Cobalt also launched the Partner of the Year awards program, showcasing the success of partners including Tugboat, Ectacom, and Drata.


- Customer momentum: As the PtaaS model gained traction in the cybersecurity realm, Cobalt added 350 new customers, including Dynatrace, Rubrik, ISS, and Glossier, bringing the company’s total customer roster to 1,000, along with Vonage, Hubspot, and Credit Karma.
