Brief Overview

Fernando is one of the most committed information security professionals in his field. He started working in the cybersecurity initiative for the Ecuadorian electricity industry since 2005, with a dream to protect all our critical infrastructure information assets.

During the first 4 years he managed the project only for CELEC EP, the biggest power generation and transmission company in Ecuador, afterwards he started the program to protect also the distribution and commercialisation sub-sectors with the “go” of the Electrical and Renewable Energy Ministry of Ecuador. He created the Cyber Security Committee inside the Ministry and started Ecuador’s Cybersecurity Initiative in the Energy Industry.

Inside CELEC he has worked closely to train those of his team, and lead them to new levels of business comprehension, resulting in a better way put their professional abilities in good use of the company. Change management has always been his priority, therefore he created the socialisation program, in which all employees of CELEC are trained in information security topics.

The experience of all these years has taken him to being a speaker in several conferences in the continent and in Europe, being also the first and only Certified Chief Information Security Officer in the country.

Nowadays he is working on creating the first CSIRT for our energy industry, with a partnership of the only certified CSIRT of our country.

Along this years, he has always managed to find new projects that help our information security department to keep growing, never leaving behind the day-to-day operations (internal and external), following international standards and norms (ISO 27000 and 31000 as well as NERC-CIP) and proposing national regulation.
