Overview

FTI Consulting’s Cybersecurity and Data Privacy Communications practice is one of the world’s largest cross-border crisis communications teams focused specifically on cybersecurity issues. Having grown the U.S. team over five-fold since 2020, the team has also expanded globally to LATAM, APAC and EMEA. The practice provides expert crisis communications counsel and support throughout the entire lifecycle of a cyber incident, helping companies mitigate risks and preserve their reputation before, during and after an incident. The practice leverages first-hand experience having worked on hundreds of cybersecurity matters spanning preparedness, incident response, litigation support and reputation recovery across a wide variety of industries.
Specifically, our practice provides strategic crisis management counsel and support around highly scrutinized cyber and data privacy incidents, including those linked to AG investigations, national security events, class action litigation, congressional inquiries, investigative reporting or other foreign government investigations and those involving major operational disruptions, significant data loss, and legal notification processes. The team has handled incidents involving PII, IP, PHI, and has successfully navigated business email compromise, phishing and spear phishing, DDoS, credential stuffing, vendor compromise, attacks to critical infrastructure, double-extortion ransomware attacks and incidents carried out by nation-states. The breadth of experience and multidisciplinary approach on these matters has positioned the practice as a well-respected and influential advisor in the cybersecurity and communications space alongside seasoned forensic investigators, cyber insurers, and legal counsel.

The team consists of former intelligence agency officials, corporate communications leaders, journalists, attorneys, government spokespersons and congressional investigators who have advised on or managed high-profile data security and privacy incidents for years. The team’s diverse background and scope of expertise allow it to provide clients, including Fortune 500 companies and other multinationals across sectors and geographies, with unique and effective solutions.

How we are different

• In March 2024, FTI Consulting’s Cybersecurity & Data Privacy Communications practice launched “CISO Redefined,” the latest installment in a multi-part survey series that explores communications challenges facing CISOs, and C-Suite perceptions and expectations of CISOs. CISO Redefined: Navigating C-Suite Perceptions & Expectations builds upon our first installment of the series, released in 2023, which revealed CISOs face mounting leadership expectations and associated communications challenges. To address the disconnect and demand for actionable solutions, our practice created a premier offering, the Secure Your Seat program, a communications and presentation training program designed to sharpen CISOs’ skills for effectively engaging with Board and C-suite leaders to limit risk and close their cybersecurity communications gap. We continue to work with CISOs as part of this program into 2024.

• Our practice takes a multi-stakeholder approach to preparedness, incident response, litigation support and reputation rebuild. We ensure consistent and accurate stakeholder communications, developing tailored outreach strategies to shape narratives, and guide communications with key stakeholders. We have advised clients through the most prominent attacks making global headlines, including counseling 15 clients across industries throughout the MOVEit Transfer data breach and supporting half of the top 10 largest healthcare breaches of 2023. We are well-versed in threat intelligence from a communications perspective to effectively prepare clients for data releases, extortion tactics, among other activities.

• We offer the leading cybersecurity and data privacy communications practice of its kind. Our senior practitioners are considered thought leaders in the industry – Meredith Griffanti, Evan Roberts, and Jamie Singer, co-heads of the practice, have spoken on top cybersecurity panels, including Incident Response Forum Ransomware and the WSJ Pro Cybersecurity, among many others. Our extensive relationships with top legal and forensic firms afford us partnership opportunities on the most high-profile incidents globally.
