Overview

Joseph Carson has spent more than the last 25 years in IT security, educating the users and leaders of scholastic institutions, governments, companies on how to keep themselves and their organizations safe from cyberattacks. As an educator and professional, Carson recognizes the need for constant learning, continuing his own education to expand his knowledge and share his experiences and lessons learned with his peers and teammates.

Carson is also a CISSP and an active member of the cybercommunity, speaking at conferences globally (i.e. RSA, Black Hat). He is a cybersecurity advisor to several governments, and critical infrastructure, financial and maritime companies. His career started in Northern Ireland working on the digitalization of medical records. One of his most critical positions was working for the ambulance service which gave him crucial experience in how critical systems can impact human lives and how important high availability, redundancy and security was to the safety of people.

In addition to his position as the chief security scientist and advisory CISO at Thycotic, Carson continues to mentor cybersecurity professionals around the world and advises several start-ups.

The future of a safe internet rests in education and Carson is dedicated to doing more than just his share as a professional. This past year, he was a guest teacher and shared his “Day in the Life of a Cybersecurity Pro” video to over 1,000 law enforcement, teachers and students. The video was then shared on Internet Security Day in which it was viewed over 8,000 times. He showcased how his role is important to worldwide security and provided students a real-world view of how great a career in cyber truly is.

Carson regularly shares his knowledge and experience giving workshops on vulnerability assessments, patch management best practices, the evolving cybersecurity perimeter and GDPR compliance.
