Overview

Founded in 2017, Coalition is on a mission to solve cyber risk and create a safer digital economy where everyone can thrive. As the world’s largest commercial insurtech, Coalition combines comprehensive insurance and active cybersecurity tools to help over 130,000 customers manage and mitigate their digital risk.
Coalition’s platform provides cyber, D&O, and executive risk insurance alongside automated security alerts, threat intelligence, expert guidance, and cybersecurity scanning technology to help businesses actively protect themselves in a digital world. Thanks to Coalition’s preventive approach to insurance, its customers file 70% fewer claims than the industry average and are more prepared to face potential threats. Backed by leading global insurers Swiss Re Corporate Solutions, Arch Insurance and Zurich North America, Coalition provides customers in the U.S. and Canada with comprehensive cyber, technology and executive risk coverage.
As of September 2021, Coalition has raised $520 million from Index Ventures, Ribbit Capital, Valor Ventures, Durable Capital, T. Rowe Price and Whale Rock Capital. In October 2021, Coalition acquired Attune, a managing general agent (MGA) and technology-powered broker platform for commercial insurance, expanding the reach of its mission to provide cybersecurity insurance for all.
Coalition is headquartered in San Francisco with a distributed workforce across North America and Europe.

Accomplishments

- From a young age, Joshua’s entrepreneurial mindset, hard work, and strong leadership skills have made him the impressive CEO and technology innovator he is today. Joshua became one of the youngest employees hired by Microsoft at age 15 and, after graduating from the University of Chicago, spent time in investing and private equity, including with Goldman Sachs in London. Joshua also played a big role in the founding and growth of Cloudflare, where he was the CxO and Head of Special Projects. Joshua and the company (20 people at the time) worked on a very ambitious mission: building a better internet. Thanks to Joshua’s efforts, Cloudflare is used by over 17 million people globally, and he took that experience with him to Coalition.

- Under Joshua’s leadership, Coalition has become a pioneer in changing how businesses address cyber risk. In August 2021, Joshua met with President Biden and the NSA at the White House to discuss private-public collaboration in confronting rising cyber attacks while reinforcing national security. There, Joshua pledged to give every business in the U.S. free access to Coalition Control, its cybersecurity risk assessment and continuous monitoring platform.

- When Joshua co-founded Coalition in 2017 with John Hering, he focused on the central mission of solving cyber risk, while making his coworkers his number one priority. He believed so strongly in the power of culture to engage the right team that he created Coalition’s culture document before creating the business plan. That document is still the core of the company, revolving around six foundational values: Character, Humility, Responsibility, Purpose, Authenticity and Diversity. These values guide the way people at Coalition work and collaborate with one another every day. Since he founded Coalition, Joshua and his team have been dedicated to redefining the cyber insurance industry and making cybersecurity accessible
