NOMINATION HIGHLIGHTS
Rajyavardhan Handa serves as a Senior Cybersecurity Engineer (Offensive Security) at Workday, where he architected the Enterprise AI Security Framework for the secure rollout of Workday Illuminate, the company’s enterprise AI platform. What makes this nomination stand out is the depth of innovation Rajyavardhan Handa brought to an emerging domain where no established playbook existed.
Workday Illuminate embeds AI agents directly into HR and finance systems to automate enterprise processes, serving 70 million+ users on a platform generating $5 billion+ in revenue. As Workday transitioned from a traditional SaaS company to an AI platform, the challenge was detecting and preventing complex ML-specific attacks across a dynamic, multitenant production environment while preserving data privacy, meeting compliance constraints, and enabling rapid product delivery.
Rajyavardhan Handa owned the technical design, implementation, and validation of the AI Security Framework. He created multilayer threat models covering training data, model pipelines, inference APIs, prompt surfaces, and third-party components. He developed adversarial profiles and red-team scenarios that simulate prompt injection, model inversion, data exfiltration, poisoning, and supply-chain attacks. He built automated pentest pipelines that exercised model exploitation, data exfiltration paths, and misconfiguration vectors. To test AI systems at scale, he established a prioritized risk taxonomy, built safe test environments, defined repeatable threat models for similar platform features, and developed a library of test cases tailored to each risk tier.
He worked closely with ML engineers, data governance, SRE, product, and legal teams to translate findings into code changes and infrastructure fixes. He also delivered training, threat model templates, and pentest playbooks to ML teams and product owners, embedding continuous AI security practices into the development lifecycle.
The outcomes demonstrate the impact of this approach. The initiative achieved a 100% secure rollout of Workday Illuminate with zero security incidents. Rajyavardhan Handa and his team identified and remediated 10 new classes of ML vulnerabilities before production, preventing data leakage, model integrity attacks, and privacy incidents. Security review cycles were shortened by 90%, and ML engineering teams demonstrated fewer iterative security defects in production models as a direct outcome of the templates he delivered.
This achievement set the foundation for securely rolling out the next generation of Workday AI applications and elevated security competency across engineering teams. By building an enterprise-grade AI security practice from the ground up, Rajyavardhan Handa has demonstrated the technical depth, innovative thinking, and collaborative execution that define an AI Security Innovator of the Year.
