Mr. Hailey is a tireless advocate for his students, helps them to get jobs, creates opportunities for them, and volunteers much of his time to provide personal tutoring and assistance. He consistently touches and changes the lives of his students by helping them achieve more than they believed they were capable of. I have witnessed him providing transportation for students so that they could make job interviews, and I have seen students hired based largely on his recommendation alone.

He embodies the standards expected for a world class educator and information security professional. In the classroom, Steve infuses high levels of content and real life experience with humor and profound respect for each student. Students in his classes learn because they are invited and encouraged to learn. He is engaging in ways that help even the most reluctant learners become focused and involved in their own education. His techniques in the classroom incorporate strategies for learners of all types.

He is an internationally recognized and respected information security and digital forensics expert, and provided the first training in digital forensics to the UAE Ministry of Justice as well as law enforcement agencies throughout the UAE. He is a consultant to law enforcement at Local, State and Federal levels and is also a Cyberterrorism Subject Matter Expert, providing DHS and FEMA sponsored training to government and military personnel. He also provides training for United States military forces in cybersecurity as well as digital forensics.

I took his Digital Forensics class on the weekend– just a tidbit of what you could learn if you went for the degree. It was fascinating, eye-opening, and Steve is an excellent instructor. He listens, he comes down to the layman’s level for beginners, he is a genius! A very personable guy!

  3. Ronee Burchinal on February 9, 2016

Steve is an outstanding, forward-thinking instructor who brings wide credibility to the field of cyber security in the context of an academic IT discipline and the rigorous pedagogy that goes along with it. For his students, his peers, and the community at large, he has removed the veil of mystery shrouding cyberspace security and made it a subject of wide interest and tangible understanding. The humility with which he accepts well-deserved compliments for his depth of knowledge in this field makes him all the more attractive and effective as an instructor imprinting curious minds with the passion for understanding cyber security issues in our very global world. Among the best, he is THE BEST!

  8. Michael Yocom on February 9, 2016

I have known Steve for a good many years and have taken numerous courses from him. In all of the IT courses I’ve taken I can honestly say Steve’s presentation, knowledge and ability to explain theory and then show the students the practical aspects of the theory is unsurpassed. Steve expects the best from his students and always goes out of his way to help His classroom management and keeping the students enthralled with even the more mundane parts of cybersecurity gives the students the impetus to push harder and succeed. Simply put, Steve Hailey is the best!

  9. Rod Halverson on February 9, 2016

Entertaining, engaging, and inspiring! An excellent instructor. I’m proud to tell people about Steve Hailey and his program. We are fortunate to have Steve as a member of our EdCC family.

  10. Jim and Elaine Nix on February 9, 2016

I have known Steve for going on 30 years and I have found Steve to be a up standing person, he is honest, trust worthy and what ever he has to say, you can take that to the bank and count on it. I have learned from him. He is a very good teacher.

  11. Allan Womac on February 10, 2016

Professor Hailey instructs his classes with unbridled enthusiasm and love for the subject matter. His commanding voice and humorous real life antidotes and work experience interjected throughout his lessons reinforce the subject matter a hundred fold.

His natural ability to engage his class stem from these and other admirable attributes and is the reason why so many of his students remain connected to him years after they have graduated.

I remember many “Hailey-isms” from my classes with him , one in particular about an opposing expert not having “seen the football.” He has a way of making the information he imparts to his students stick; you will not forget what you learn from him. I use many things that I learned from him on a daily basis.

He helped me through my first forensics case, donating countless hours of his own time. He gave me encouragement when I thought I was in over my head, ready to give up. Had I been on my own, I would have quit. I now lead the investigations and incident response team for a Fortune 500 company.

Thank-you Professor. You are eminently qualified and fully deserving of this award.

  12. Darren Taylor on February 10, 2016

I met Steve in 2012 and have taken a few courses with him. He’s an enthusiastic instructor that has a passion for his students learning. When I am not taking courses, he has made himself available to me to answer questions when having issues with digital forensics or software programs. He holds free digital forensics seminars to improve the profession and to provide a refresher for past digital forensic students. Throughout my academic experiences, I have not had an instructor with the traits of Steve. As long as he continues to teach, I will always look to take advantage of any opportunities he is offering. Steve is more than qualified for this award.

  13. Neil Hickey on February 10, 2016

Steve is a consummate expert in Cybersecurity and dedicated to making his expertise accessible to everyone. He is a true ambassador for the field and deserving of recognition.

  14. Lauri Kram on February 10, 2016

I was fortunate to serve on Steve Hailey’s tenure committee. Though I had not previously worked directly with Steve, I was well aware of his considerable professional credentials as well as his stellar reputation among students as an outstanding instructor.

I had an opportunity to observe Steve teaching his Digital Forensics II class. It was evident that considerable planning had gone into Steve’s class presentation. Steve presented the class content in a clear, conversational and genuinely enthusiastic manner.

I was most impressed with the way Steve encouraged his students, by saying “It’s ok to stop me to ensure that each of you understands [the content]. That’s YOUR job. In order for me to do my job, you need to do yours.” Students seemed to have taken Steve’s guidance to heart, as there was lively student interaction during the entire class. Clearly, the students were highly engaged!

Before presenting the hands-on activities for the day, Steve presented a slide showing the processes students would be performing in the class. He reviewed each process, asking the students “when would you use it?” “what does it do?” “why is this important?” and built on the students’ responses by offering additional examples in answer to their questions.

It was a pleasure and a privilege to observe Steve’s teaching. I left the class in awe not only of Steve’s impressive expertise in his professional field but also of his innate abilities as an exceptional teacher. It was apparent that Steve loves what he does and genuinely cares about his students.

  15. Brian Globerman on February 10, 2016

I took Steve Hailey’s class (CIS 279, Managing Network Security) in Spring Quarter 2014. It prepared me to pass the Certified Ethical Hacker exam. As well, it was an extremely informative and well-presented course that taught me security-related skills I continue to use in my job as systems engineer. Steve is a gifted instructor who sincerely cares about his students’ success, and has the background and training to impart those skills necessary for a career in information security and digital forensics.

  16. Ahmad AlMegren on February 10, 2016

I am sponsored by my employer to get a certificate in Information Security and Digital Forensic in EDCC. My career is in the cybersecurity field. I luckily had two classes in Digital Forensics with Mr. Hailey during my study in EDCC. This man has a great influence to keep you excited during the class. He seems to be very knwoledgable and experienced in the field and has amazing communication skills when presenting any topic. Not to mention his sense of humor but with level of respect which keeps everybody around in a fruitfull mood and want to learn more from him.

  17. Keith Connors on February 11, 2016

As an old dog its nice to meet someone who not only can teach a few new tricks but really fires you up. Steve not only teaches you the who what when where and why, but really stokes the flames of passion for technology and pride in workmanship.

  18. Donny Neil on February 11, 2016

I believe I speak for all of your students when I say THANKYOU for all that you do. You show a true dedication to your students and their success – a dedication I have never seen in any other instructor.

  19. James Gotner on February 11, 2016

I look forward to taking many more classes from Steve Hailey as he has proven himself to be one of the true ‘Subject Matter Experts’ that the entire IT industry builds their certification criteria on.

  20. Brian Curnutt on February 11, 2016

Steve’s classes have been great – he is a great guy and excellent, engaging instructor! You are very fortunate to have him at EdCC. When I researched the program prior to enrolling, he was a major reason I did the EdCC program rather than an M.S. in InfoSec/CyberSecurity elsewhere. I’m glad that I took the digital forensics program at EdCC – I believe wholeheartedly that I have learned more in a way I learn best and am a much more competent forensic examiner than I would have been at another program.

  21. Ibrahim Malouf on February 11, 2016

Mr. Hailey is simply a force of nature!

I have not had any other teacher or professor that comes close to his ability to impart highly technical information so that all students understand. With his instruction I (and several other members of my team) finally understood several aspects of incident response and digital forensics that we have been struggling with. My company will be hiring him to conduct all of our IT training this year.

  22. James Mulik on February 11, 2016

Steve offers innovative programs and is an authority in his discipline. Students speak highly of him, and he enjoys what he does. These traits speak to how highly regarded of an educator Steve is, and Edmonds CC is fortunate to have such a passionate faculty member effectively serving students and helping them learn.

  23. Frank Dauenhauer on February 11, 2016

I am one of many whose life has been positively changed as a direct result of the Information Security and Digital Forensics program at EdCC, led by Steve Hailey. I currently work in the information security and digital forensics field and have now my own information security consulting company. I can emphatically attribute my success in a large degree to what I learned from Steve, as well as several opportunities that he initiated on my behalf. I can also speak directly to Steve Hailey’s incredible enthusiasm for his work in digital forensic, his students and most importantly to their success because over the years I’ve known Steve, I have seen him tirelessly provided seminars, lectures, internship and work opportunities above and beyond his teaching to every one of his students including myself and many other people whom I have known. In my opinion there is no one more deserving of the Cyber Security Excellence Award than Steve Hailey, for his work in the field of Digital Forensics as a practitioner, as a trainer, a teacher, a mentor and as a friend to all those who have the privilege of knowing him.

  24. Shun Ren on February 12, 2016

Steve is one of the best instructors I have ever met in my school life. He impels the students to learn as much as they could during the class, and make them confident while doing work.

  25. David Voogd on February 12, 2016

Steve Hailey is truly one of the most remarkable instructors I’ve ever had. If you have read this far you know of his dedication to students, his passion for the subject matter and the special charisma he brings to the classroom. I couldn’t agree more with all of these sentiments.
I was looking to take a class or two on IT security when I enrolled in his class over ten years ago. Needless to say I ended up taking every class in his curriculum. Thinking I had better take these while I can, before some major university or other opportunity sweeps him away from our little community college.
Not only was he not swept away, he stayed and built a cyber security and digital forensics program that is unparalleled and a major asset to Edmonds Community College. While he could have been out seeking his fortune elsewhere, instead he decided to provide our community access to those fortunes and opportunities through his knowledge, his passion and his guidance. For all of this I can’t thank him enough, the very least I could do is wholeheartedly endorse him for this award. You will not find a candidate more deserving than Steve Hailey.

  26. Wendy Drucker on February 13, 2016

Not only is Steve Hailey a consummate expert in the field of cybersecurity, he has that rare gift of making everything perfectly understandable to students. I looked forward to class each day and finished his courses with confidence in my knowledge and abilities. His enthusiasm is contagious. He is one of the best college professors I ever had.He is truly deserving of this award.

  27. George Butters on February 13, 2016

Steve wasn’t just our class instructor, he was our leader taking us into interesting and uncharted territory.

And like a good leader, he under promised and over delivered: in addition to the daily classroom sessions, he came in early every morning to lead a group of keeners in extra exercises.

If you give this award to Steve, all of his students will know that it’s a tough award to win because it only goes to the best.

  28. Marc Handelman on February 13, 2016

Steve displays both the educator’s profound devotion to the pupil’s successful journey on their path to the goals they wish to attain, and an equally extraordinary knowledge of information security, cyber-security, and forensics. Coupled together these attributes culminate in an educator of immense capabilities; further, we are quite fortunate, indeed, to have Steve Hailey educating future security professionals. His contributions to the safety of civil society, leveraging the art and science of professional law enforcement, forensic sciences, information and data security, and cyber-security are judged everyday, and proven by successful prosecutions and investigations in many jurisdictions. I unequivocally vote for Department Chair Steve Hailey.

  29. Ricky Ratzlaff on February 13, 2016

Steve Hailey is knowledgeable, passionate, patient, and understandable. He has the rare ability to both exude confidence as well as bring complicated concepts to a simpler level — which of itself engenders confidence and the ability to transcend complexity. Within all of this ability, he’s easy to get along with. He doesn’t condescend, patronize, or act imperiously. He senses your personality and makes himself and his course style compatible with it. Anyone who has the privilege of learning from him will learn for life.

  30. Todd Plesco on February 13, 2016

Steve is an outstanding instructor with a true passion for the art and science of cyber security. I’ve enjoyed both attending and participating in his classes and lectures.

  31. Tom Muehleisen on February 13, 2016

Steve is a passionate, driven leader in forensics and education. I had the pleasure of working with Steve at a community forum he hosted. He is one of the few people who can walk the walk and then talk the talk, in plain enough language that newcomers can understand how challenging and exciting cyber security really is.

  32. JoAnne (Jody) Watson on February 13, 2016

I took Steve Hailey’s Digital Forensics Seminar for Paralegal Studies students at EDCC. Most of the students in his seminar had absolutely no previous computer technology experience, but some of them were technology professionals — so this was a particularly challenging teaching assignment.
Steve knocked it out of the park. He has an almost uncanny ability to gauge the level of each individual’s baseline technology knowledge and to then customize his answers to their questions in a way that takes each student to his/her own next level of understanding.
But what really sets Steve Hailey apart from the rest is his commitment to continual teaching and coaching. He doesn’t stop teaching just because class is over. Rather, he makes himself available to all of his former students, to discuss new industry knowledge, his evaluations of current technologies — and to offer his up-to-the-second perspective on the state of all matters security.
I have had many, many professors in my long academic academic career. Which is what qualifies me to tell you this: Mr. Steve Hailey is the cream of the crop.

  33. Damon Shearer on February 14, 2016

I’ve worked with Steve over the past few years as a student and in preparation of launching my own company.
Steve is a fantastic instructor. The breadth and depth of knowledge he bring from his years of experience is unlikely to be matched by other programs. He is creative, dynamic and truly makes learning fun. His dedication to students and colleagues, both professionally and personally, is the standard against which others will be measured.
I am thankful to have worked with and learned from him and look forward to additional opportunities to come.

  34. Kiefer Atkins on February 14, 2016

Without a doubt Steve is one of the best. His passion for teaching, coaching, and fellowship are just a few of the things that put him at the top – add to that his incredible depth of knowledge of all things related to cybersecurity – truly a tremendous asset to Edmonds Community College and to the cybersecurity community at large.

  35. Max Seman on February 14, 2016

Steve was the individual who got me to start thinking like a hacker. That is to say, the drive to want to understand how computer systems, networks, and services operate at their deepest levels. The ability and desire to want to test things yourself, see the evidence, and draw conclusions has been paramount to my success in infosec. Steve does not educate and developers “point and click” students; he genuinely wants you to understand what is happening behind the scenes, and this is one of the most important aspects of infosec employees. We no longer have to build all of our tools ourselves, and we should not lose the desire and ability to understand what is actually happening when we run our fancy security programs. Steve has continuously made this his mission for his students.

  36. Dave Hansen on February 14, 2016

Excellent teacher and a never tiring advocate for “doing the job properly.” A fine choice for this or any other such award.

  37. Caroline Morgan on February 14, 2016

Hands down, one of the BEST instructors I’ve ever had. Steve takes complex concepts and delivers them in a way that makes it understandable and integrative. He moves through lessons and modules making sure that everyone is is confidently moving forward. He offers extra help after class time with open lab and volunteer opportunities. He really is one of a kind and once you meet him, you will never forget him. How many people can you say that about? Not many, and that is why he is worthy of this distinction. I rarely notice the ordinary but always notice the extraordinary. That is what you will find with Steve Hailey, an extraordinary human being, teacher and mentor. Best of luck Steve, you truly deserve this!

  38. Jerrilee Mosier on February 14, 2016

I had the pleasure of working with Steve Hailey as he provided the leadership and technical expertise for the development of the cybersecurity program at Edmonds Community College. He is an outstanding faculty member, but more importantly, he is an outstanding educator. While I was working with Steve, he was continually identifying ways to elevate the technology equipment available to students and seeking methods that would help students grasp and apply the technical knowledge necessary within the program. He expanded the number of internship locations available for students and provided short free seminars to encourage individuals to explore the information security and digital forensics program. He is a dedicated, knowledgeable and creative educator, who puts students first. He is so deserving of this honor.

  39. Joe Kurkowski on February 15, 2016

In all of my 20+ years of education Steve Hailey is by far the best teacher EVER! Its easy to tell how much he loves what he does in the first class you take with Steve. I have learned so much about navigating around the computer and Steve made it interesting and fun at the same time. Thank you Steve for fun education.

  40. Douglas Spindler on February 15, 2016

I meet Steve in the summer of 2010 when I attended a digital forensics “train the trainer” class. Having already taken two digital forensic investigation classes from other instructors and a comprehensive forensic investigation class from the well-known SANS (System Administration, Networking, and Security) Institute I wasn’t expecting to learn much.

In the first two days I learned more from Steve than all of the other courses combined. Not only does Steve have a mastery of the subject matter he has that wonderful gift of teaching the material in way where a student can follow along and understand what Steve is teaching. It’s rare to find an instructor who knows the material and can explain it in a clear and concise manor which is interesting and Steve has that ability.

But Steve’s teaching did not end with me. Over the next four years I taught my students digital forensics investigation using the same format Steve used to teach me. I am proud to say thanks entirely to Steve two of my students took first place in two consecutive years in the national United States Cyber Challenge competition.

But it didn’t end there. Three other students would up getting hired as digital forensic investigators.

While I would like to take credit for my student’s accomplishments I have to pass that recognition to Steve Hailey.

My students and I want to say, THANK YOU STEVE! We owe our success to you.

  41. Kyle Derrick on February 15, 2016

I would not be where I am today without Steve Hailey. Steve’s knowledge, advice, and willingness to help those who work hard is the only reason I have succeeded in changing my life around. He’s a great instructor and hilarious guy as well.

  42. Chris Dalton on February 15, 2016

I’ve known Steve for about 10 years. He is an outstanding instructor. He is also a great citizen and friend. He gets my highest vote and recommendation.

  43. Lyle Ergang on February 16, 2016

If there are not several hundred comments here similar to this one by the time voting ceases, then it is simply because Hailey’s students did not know they could vote.

His students take the CSFA exam ($750.00) at no cost. He constantly advocates for and “pushes up” his students. He arranges and hosts seminars, conferences, and employer outreach functions for his students. He performs pro-bono work for his students and members of the community. He helps his students prepare for job interviews and provides tutoring on his own time for struggling students. Known and regarded in the information security and digital forensics communities as a Subject Matter Expert. Consultant to federal agencies.

I have known Hailey since we were both in the Marine Corps around 30 years ago. He was then and still is now, a leader that we respect. Thank-you for all that you do Sir. SEMPER FI.

  44. This guy knows his stuff. I would recommend taking any course he offers. He’s an excellent instructor who truly wants you to learn.

  45. Anna Bronson on February 16, 2016

A great instructor who holds state of the art knowledge in his field. He is considered, patient, quick in response by email and helpful whenever student have questions. He knows how to get attention of students by constantly sharing “real-world” examples and relating them to topics covered in class. Truly enjoyed his teaching style .

  46. Marc Milstein on February 16, 2016

I have known Steve for 8+ years and my personal belief is that he is a world-class instructor and a never ending wealth of knowledge. He has a knack for teaching in such a manner that he can explain the most complex topics at whatever level is commensurate with his audience – whether that is a room full of students who are just beginning their path to attaining forensics and cybersecurity skills or a room of industry veterans and experts. Steve would be an exemplary recipient of the Cybersecurity Educator of the Year award in my personal opinion.

  47. He makes sure everyone on campus is aware of the latest in digital forensics.

  48. John Farrar on February 16, 2016

Steve is one of those rare breed of individuals who is capable of taking a highly complex subject matter and making it understandable. When a colleague in the U.S. Army was looking for assistance with unit training prior to what was expected to be an intense and volatile deployment Steve was my first and most important suggestion. He didn’t disappoint and I was later thanked and told that his training was a key factor in their highly successful deployment.

  49. Margo Vincent on February 17, 2016

I have taken only a couple of Steve’s workshops/classes. He was able to provide a lot of important and helpful information in a short period of time, and always in a manor that made it easily understandable by any and all knowledge levels of participants.

Steve Hailey is not just an academic, he is a true teacher and mentor in every sense. I learned more in five weeks from Hailey than several quarters at two other institutions.

His compressed courses are tough, but he makes you want to learn and knows how to get you motivated. Employers in the state know of him and his program. When people found out I went through his program, they were interested in me and I was invited for interviews I would not have been to otherwise. After several job offers I now have my dream job conducting penetration tests and performing incident response for a Fortune 500 company.

  51. Kimberly Taylor on February 17, 2016

Steve is an excellent educator and I thoroughly enjoyed his classes. He makes the environment rich for learning and keeps the students engaged in the topic. Really hard thing to do when teaching adults who have already spent their day at work and are taking night classes or classes on Saturday! Thank you, Steve!

  52. Jesse Moore on February 17, 2016

Steve is the Cybersecurity Educator of the Year in my book, no doubt about it. I had the privilege of stumbling across his free Real CSI Digital Forensic seminar and from there I HAD to enroll into his complete Digital Forensic certificate course. My classroom experience only got better as he is a compelling, approachable, and fun teacher to be around. I actually wish class would last longer and going to his class was one of the highlights of my week. Learning from Steve is hands-down the only way to go if you’re interested in Cybersecurity. To this day when anyone is curious about CyberSecurity I give my highest recommendation of Steve Hailey’s courses/workshops/consulting/seminars. Steve is not only a pleasure to be taught from, he does so many great things for students like assisting with finding internships, provide free training, giving recommendations for jobs and the list goes on. I couldn’t possible name all the EXCELLENCE he provides for his students. Words really can’t express all the students’ lives including myself that he has impacted for the greater good. THANK YOU STEVE!

  53. Bob Couch on February 18, 2016

Steve is an excellent educator and very thorough in his instruction and descriptions of how computer forensics behaves outside of the classroom environment. I participated in several quarters of Steve’s classes at Edmonds CC an completed the Digital Forensics course and certificate work. His packet analysis course was equally as detailed. Steve works hard to make sure that students understand the theories on why forensic workflow moves the way it does.

I would highly recommend Steve as an instructor for anyone pursuing a career in computer forensics and CyberSecurity.

    Thank you Steve!

  54. Faraj Alqahtani on February 18, 2016

I have been in the IT field for more than 16 years where I attended many top of the line courses in different countries. Luckily, I had 2 courses in Edmonds community college with Mr. Steve Hailey and I can say I have never learned from anyone like Him. He is a genius instructor, who has amazing skills to get the information absorbed by th students. He is not only an excellent instructor, but also is an expert in the cyber security and digital forensics field. I personally believe Mr. Hailey, is one of the best trainers not only in USA but in the world. I consider myself lucky I to be one his students.

  55. Justin Brecese on February 19, 2016

Steve is a dedicated and highly experienced instructor whose courses truly provide students with what they need to become leading professionals in the field. His digital forensics and data recovery courses provide an unparalleled level of access to professional resources, cutting edge tools, and most importantly his vast personal knowledge of the “ins and outs” of the profession. Such knowledge is invaluable for budding professionals to help jump-start their careers or business ventures, and goes beyond standard “textbook” teaching to provide a more well-rounded and directly applicable education. I can directly attest to the value of his courses as they were my primary source of instruction in digital forensics and they got me where I am today, doing incident response and forensic analysis for a federal agency.

Numerous times Steve has offered me support on research projects and professional aspirations, always helping in any way he can and always making himself available for consultation and advice. For example, Steve sponsored my capstone project for my Master of Science in Information Management degree from the University of Washington by providing my team with access to tools that we wouldn’t have otherwise been able to afford or obtain, as well as professional advice on issues we encountered along the way.

Steve has a true passion and ability for teaching and seeing his students succeed, and is the perfect candidate for “Cybersecurity Educator of the Year.”

  56. James Clark on February 19, 2016

I’ve taken many of Steve’s digital forensics classes over the years and he is one of the best instructors hands down. He is prepared for class, completely knowledgeable about the material, and truly engaging. His real life examples keep lectures really interesting and relevant. He also cares about his students’ success and goes above and beyond to help them succeed. Count me among the many when I say Thank You Steve!

  57. Melissa Albin on February 19, 2016

Steve is an outstanding educator, one of the best instructors I’ve ever had. His knowledge, passion, and energy seem boundless, his devotion to students is always clear, and it seems he could make any topic interesting and entertaining.

  58. David Lange on February 19, 2016

Steve is an enthusiastic instructor who drives his classes hard, but takes student failure personally He understands the institution where he teaches and advises students well.

He promotes the program and school tirelessly and keeps himself up on all the technology and issues. His private practices are shared with his classes for the benefit of all.

He understands when a good idea is shared and he takes time to mentor his students. I highly recommend Steve Hailey for: Cybersecurity Educator of the Year!

Steve Hailey is the only educator in my opinion that should receive the CyberSecurity Educator of the Year Award, this year and every year going forward. I only say this because I have known Steve since early 2010 when I started taking classes for the Digital Forensics and Information Security degree at Edmonds Community College. Before I started his program, I was already a seasoned IT Professional and had been working in the IT industry for over 10 years. What I learned from Steve Hailey completely changed the way I would look at an IT related problem. Now that I know more about how everything works, I now think more analytically.

Steve is one of those people that just has a passion for what they do, they love what they do, they know everything about what they do, and they get enjoyment out of sharing that knowledge with others. Steve is a very dedicated, experienced, and knowledgeable instructor. He spends time with his students, (even students that have long since graduated and need some advice). Steve is always there for anyone that is interested in learning about technology.

It was Steve that assisted my business partner and I with our first forensic case that allowed us to start our own company almost 3 years ago. I never would have thought I would own my own digital forensic business, but with Steve Hailey’s training and guidance my business partner and I were able to make it a reality.

Steve is also able to provide students with a lot of different digital forensic, data recovery, and information security software packages, tools, and hardware. All of these are available in his training lab and is available to students come in to use, practice on, and hone their skills on 40+ hours a week. This is why Steve should receive this award, he provides great training to students and provides them with the tools to practice on. I highly recommend Steve Hailey for the CyberSecurity Educator of the Year.

Steve Hailey definitely has my vote for Cybersecurity Educator of the Year! Not only is he amazing instructor with a wealth of knowledge and expertise, he can make even the driest of topics fun to learn about. I take every opportunity I have to enroll in his courses.

  61. Chris McNulty on February 23, 2016

I have known Steve for more than 5 years. He is an absolute top notch instructor and an expert in his field. When I was first wading into the waters of digital forensics, Steve provided great guidance and mentorship. I am proud to support a 5-Star recommendation for Steve Hailey as the Cybersecurity Educator of the Year.

  62. Darren on February 23, 2016

Steve is a cybersecurity educator of cybersecurity educators. I had the good fortune of taking a train-the-trainer class from him that was geared specifically for other educators across that nation that were either starting or revamping a cybersecurity curriculum.

The class was full to capacity, and I can attest that Steve taught several of us “seasoned faculty” several new tricks. I include many of the techniques that I learned from him in the information assurance program that I now instruct, and I also picked up some great tips from him on handling a class and keeping students engaged. In addition to his phenomenal knowledge of all things infosec, he is also a world class instructor. I give him my highest recommendation as a fellow educator

I have known Steve Hailey as an instructor for more than ten years and he has always been one of the best instructors of Edmonds Community College. He cares about his students and goes beyond his regular job duties. Steve always updates his knowledge on the current subject and shares that with his students. He teaches students to use the most sophisticated tools in the industry and he encourages students to get their certifications. He relates his information to real life situations by giving examples from his personal experiences. He finds experts in the field and invites them to talk to students on how Digital Forensics can be applied in different job fields. I highly recommend Steven Hailey for the Excellence Award, as he is most deserving.

  64. Trevor Strotz on February 24, 2016

There are 3 things about Steve that set him aside from many instructors out there. First is his profoundly vast amount of knowledge in the real world cybersecurity industry. Second is his unbelievably unique (and successful) way of relaying that information to his students. Third is his strong desire to help his students land jobs in the cybersecurity industry after completing his programs. I encourage every individual seeking or expanding upon their career in the cybersecurity industry to take just one of his classes to experience Steve’s teaching style. You will be hooked and you will gain paramount knowledge. There is no doubt that I will be returning to Steve to broaden my knowledge in the future.

It has been a Blessing and a Great Pleasure to meet and know and “LEARN” from a Man such as Steve Hailey. Never have so many gotten the opportunity to Learn from a Master at His Trade. The enthusiasm that Steve brings makes one eager to get some of all that knowledge he has built up over the many years of perfecting his craft and he is Very knowledgeable!! He can bring out that desire to suck in all that he is willing to give and share. There are most diffidently not but a few in this world that are even in the same class as him and all he knows. It was because of him that I obtained the want to be a Great at Something Special and you can see just that in all his students and peers. I don’t know exactly how the EDCC got him there, but what a Great asset they received when he signed on to create more knowledgeable People of a Field that others are just Truly getting to understand all it can do and accomplish through it. A ever growing and changing Field that Only a select few have mastered and are now spreading that knowledge on to Open Willing and Absorbing Minds. It can Only Get better with People such as Steve and his abilities to make a better more efficient Group of Investigators in the Forensics Field… Thanks Steve for allowing me to be a part of something Great!!!

Mr. Hailey is an excellent source of wisdom and motivation. I took my first course with Mr. Hailey back in 2013. That was CIS 201, Digital Forensics and the Law. It quickly became apparent to me that Mr. Hailey has a firm grasp on the location of the Football before, during, and after the kickoff. Every subsequent class I have taken with Mr. Hailey has been incredibly enlightening and inspiring. I am at the end of my 2 year program and have never had anything other than good experiences with Mr. Hailey.

  67. Matthew Spiker on February 26, 2016

Mr. Hailey is a wellspring of knowledge in Digital Forensics & Law, Ediscovery, Cyber Security, and so on. I have survived all of his course’s and can say that I’m a better student and IT Professional from being under his tutelage. I would highly recommend anyone to attend his course’s at EDCC or anywhere else they may be available, his understanding of Digital Forensics & Law are above reproach, and any new or practicing student of law cannot afford to miss out on Mr. Hailey’s superb programs and instructions.

  68. I have taken several courses from Steve in cyber security at Edmonds Community College. His lectures are informative and entertaining.

  69. Angel DuVaul on February 26, 2016

I have had over 2 years of interaction with Mr. Hailey in the CIS program at Edmonds Community College. Steve has been an integral part of my success here at EdCC. I found him to be uniquely capable of capturing the attention of his students and helping us learn confidently. He has been a key mentor during my studies at EdCC and has provided startup advice to myself and my business partner on countless occasions. He always shows interest in students work and provides constructive feedback to help us learn and give us the skills needed to be successful in the field of Information Security and Digital Forensics.

In my opinion Mr. Hailey has gone above and beyond my expectations of what an instructor does. I can wholeheartedly say, that I have personally benefited from learning from Steve and sincerely hope that his efforts will be rewarded by being awarded Cybersecurity Educator of the Year.

  70. Leslie Berntson on February 26, 2016

Never a dull moment in any class when Steve is involved, so working for Steve is just that much more fun 🙂 It’s an honor to be a lab manager and teaching assistant for someone that cares so much about the success of his students!

Astronomers may have discovered over 1000 planets outside the solar system. That’s okay, I as far as that goes. However, students fortunate enough to live on this part of this planet have discovered only one cybersecurity instructor as gifted as Steve Hailey. Prove me wrong and I’ll eat my head!

  72. Lisa Hood on February 27, 2016

I went to one of his seminars and became very interested in finding out more about Digital Forensics. I finally had the pleasure of having Steve Hailey as my instructor at Edmonds Community College. I like the way he explains things and how he keeps you engaged with the subject matter. He is a person to whom you can approach to discuss just about anything. He is an extremely intelligent person and his knowledge of Digital Forensics and Cybersecurity is phenomenal. He is truly a gifted individual, and deserves to win this award. I wish his the best of luck.

  73. Eddy Lau on February 27, 2016

Steve is by far the best instructor/mentor I’ve ever had in my life. He is very dedicated to his teaching and he has always been very patience with his students. In my 2.5 years at EDCC to complete my Digital Forensics degree, I was always looking forward to his class, and never want to miss a min of his lecture time.

  74. Fernando on February 27, 2016

I have known Mr. Hailey for a few years, he has always been very professional and dedicated to his job and students. In the last year I have decided to go back to school to change and further my career, this lead me into taking a few classes with Mr. Hailey.

In the classroom I have seen the same professionalism and dedication that I’ve witnessed outside the classroom. Mr Hailey has been an amazing instructor, I have learned a lot from him and I look forward to learning more. He has inspired me to further my career in Digital Forensics and pursue opportunities that I never imagined.

Any competent Forensic Analysts knows that Mr. Hailey has earned and deserves this award.

  75. Stewart Loewy on February 27, 2016

Steve does an excellent job teaching. His class(es) are interesting and more importantly I’ve learned a ton. Although I only have taken a single class of Steve’s so far, I’ve enjoyed it so much that I will be taking more in the future. I highly recommend Steve for this award. He deserves it!!

  76. Stephen C Raybould on February 27, 2016

I have worked in Exchange for the last 5 years, specifically in SLA Calc’s however we automated most of the system and it was time to find a new direction. I did some investigation into the career direction which seemed the most interesting, exciting and yes profitable. My decision was to dive into Information Security and Digital forensics, so the location as to where I would feed my knowledge need would be critical as far as the team of professors that I would in trust with my future. When searching for a program, I needed one that was filled with the highest level of educators and especially the Administrator and key professor of the program, that person is Mr Steven Hailey. His knowledge of the overall program, the gifting that he has for Digital forensics, his incredible way that he brings to life the processes of forensics (and the incredible list of company’s, many law enforcement dept’s, Texas A&M, FEMA, Homeland Security) just to get the list started, had caught my attention. As an instructor I was looking for someone that not only has over the top wisdom and knowledge, but with humor and wit, pulls his students along on his journey of being one of the best assets that the Cybersecurity family has. Mr. Hailey has been, and is the most exciting, encouraging, humorous, challenging professor and for everyone that has had the experience of learning from him, friend.
I am thrilled that this opportunity has come up to give credit where credit is due. Thank you Steven for bringing my careers’ new focus to life in such a wonderful way, for investing your time and knowledge in your very grateful students.

Steve is a great teacher and educator. He always goes the extra mile to make sure that his students have everything the need to learn. Anything he can to help and facilitate more learning for his students Steve will do. He is always eager to teach real life experience and impart the knowledge he has gained in the real world as well as the academic learning. I can honestly say he is one of the best professors I have ever had.

  79. Edgardo B on February 28, 2016

I had 10+ years of experience at a local University in the Information Security field as well as a Bachelor’s degree before meeting Steve. I felt, I would be in his classes to leisurely pass time.

Instead I was incredibly *blown away* not only by his knowledge, but from his enthusiasm & delivery. He was teaching me things I thought I already knew, but now I was asking questions I never considered before. I was so eager to attend every class! What is going on, I thought!? This was an entirely different experience from my previous years of schooling.

He instills confidence in all his students for them to pursue further opportunities. With all his experience & knowledge, Steve remains very approachable.

Steve Hailey for Cybersecurity Educator of the Year / Decade!

  80. Ryan Boulanger on February 28, 2016

By far the best instructor I’ve ever had. He is very charismatic and engaging, and perhaps most importantly has real-world experience.

You won’t have dry lectures where material is read almost verbatim from a text. Instead, you will spend your time learning about what is most important in the field, along with a few (humorous but very applicable) stories from his past experiences.

  81. Taylor Mulholland on February 28, 2016

Steve Hailey is a spectacular instructor!
He uses his wealth of experience to teach the next generation of security and digital forensic’s professionals.
His classes are the perfect balance of humor and education that keeps the entire class engaged. If someone were to ask me where they should learn about Cybersecurity I would tell them “Anywhere Steve Hailey teaches.”

  82. Jeremy Fleck on February 28, 2016

My initial experience at one of Steve Hailey’s digital forensics seminars is what lead me not only to pursue an education in the digital forensics field, but in the Information Technology sector in general. He is an inspiring and extremely knowledgeable instructor, who demonstrates respect for and interest in his students. His wry sense of humor aids in the absorption of the highly technical and complex information he presents in his classes. I feel incredibly fortunate to live in a region where I was able to take advantage of Steve’s knowledge, expertise, and experience.

  83. Kirk Munn on February 28, 2016

Steve Hailey is hands down one of the best educators I have had the pleasure of meeting and being instructed by.

While exploring the next phase in my IT career path was lucky enough to discover in my own back yard one of the greatest opportunities and instructors in my educational experience. After attending one of his seminars I knew I needed to enroll the first chance I could, which I did. His deep expertise, experiences, command of technology and standing in the community were more than enough to persuade me to his classes. Well thought out programs and topics is what I found at the Edmonds Community College Digital forensic & Security program lead by Steve. It has been a pleasure being instructed by Steve.

He is truly deserving of this award.

  84. J Thomas on February 29, 2016

By far the most charismatic instructor I have had the pleasure to learn from in any of the multiple countries and I have lived in and attended college in. Steve’s deep understanding of what it takes to a force for good in the Forensics and Cyber Security world is truly inspiring and second to none. His ability to communicate effectively is highlighted by the fact that he is sought after by individual newcomers to the field and governments alike. All who are fortunate enough to know him recognize how important his work is in both the here and now as well as the challenges we will face tomorrow. A true gentleman and a scholar, thank you for all that you do Steve….

  85. Steve Hailey is a phenomenal instructor who brings his real world knowledge and methodology in to the class room making him one of a rare breed who is not only able to teach the skills needed to be a successful Cyber Security Professional in today’s market but is actually practicing what he preaches at the same time. If only there was a way to make a forensic image of him then even more people could learn from this true leader amongst men. You are the reason I aspire to work in this amazing field Steve, thank you.

  86. Lori Lester on February 29, 2016

This role model, educator is not only an established professional but is valued by his students for his demeanor, knowledge, and integrity. Mr. Hailey’s understanding of the Net Security and Digital Forensics world opens a world of opportunity for his students. I believe this can be acknowledged by the number of successful students that are working out in the field, right out of EDCC and Steve Haileys’ classes. He made us sharp, well educated individuals that can get out in the work force and be an asset to any organization!

  87. David Arthur on February 29, 2016

Steve Hailey is the best professor I have experienced while at EDCC. The videos and lesson plans put together by him and Mike Andrew are comprehensive, entertaining, and evenly paced. I have met Steve on a number of occasions at lectures, or training events and I always look forward to when he shares his real life stories.

2015 was my first year in the IT field and thanks to Steve updating all his students on new jobs postings was able to land a job in my field. I am now adding more certifications to my resume and hope to advance 2016.

A lot of teachers and professors have a set plan for things and cannot adjust to changes or problems. But Steve has always been helpful, and very quick to respond to my requests for aid as well as answer any questions.

Communication is key when taking any type of course. Especially for online classes as little time is spend in the actual classroom. In this regard I have a great deal of respect for Steve Hailey. He is passionate about his job and you can tell that he loves his work and teaching the next generation. If anyone deserves the Cyber Security Excellence Award he is the man!

  88. Terry Turner on February 29, 2016

I have been in the IT/IS field for almost 20 years and Steve was my instructor in my very first class and to be honest it was his knowledge, professionalism and teaching style that inspired me to continue down this field. I have taken many classes since that Steve has taught over the last almost 20 years and each time, I am still amazed as to his knowledge and enthusiasm in the field of Cybersecurity, he makes it fun and leaves you wanting to learn more each time.
All said and done; there is no “Deer in the headlights” stares at end of class, you just get it!

I have had the privilege of being in the class of Mr. Steve Hailey for nearly an year. He is a gifted educator who could deliver complex concepts and procedures in simple to understand language. He is extremely knowledgeable of the subject matter he teaches. His presentations and stories to explain subject matter are highly valued by students. I have observed how Mr. Hailey works with students to open a world of opportunities for them. EdCC is very lucky to have such a dedicated and knowledgeable faculty member in the CIS program.

  90. Bob Deans on March 1, 2016

I had the pleasure of attending Mr. Hailey’s digital forensics classes at Edmonds Community College. I have attended IT classes at several community colleges as well as classes given by private training companies. I have found Mr. Hailey to be the best instructor. His real life stories during his teaching keeps you interested and wanting to learn more. He show a guanine concern for his students job prospects and will spend time giving advise or pointing you in the right direction. I heard a saying once that stuck with me. “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” After taking a class from Mr. Hailey you will know how much he cares.

  91. Eric Apple on March 3, 2016

Steve is an engaging instructor with far more energy than I’ve ever had. I don’t understand how he does as much as he does with such confidence and ease. An awesome instructor, and a true expert in cyber.
