Tim Jensen is a Senior Penetration Tester with AppSec Consulting with more than 7 years of experience in Information Security. He holds the CISSP certification and has expertise in all aspects of ethical hacking, penetration testing and security operations. Tim specializes in aligning systems to security frameworks such as DISA STIGS and conducting penetration tests to validate system security. He also specializes in brief and deep security impact analysis of new hardware, software, policies, and procedures being brought into an organization. He has conducted over 100 penetration tests involving external networks, internal networks, web application assessments, mobile devices, physical assessments, SCADA systems, and more. Tim was the co-founder of StaridLabs training academy, hacklab and tech incubator in Fargo, ND. StaridLabs provided free weekly information security training to IT professionals for over 4 years. Tim is heavily involved in his local community. He has been asked to speak at several conferences regarding a variety of information security topics. Tim’s recent publications have included “A New Age of NFS Mining” and “Shot Fired From 5,000 Miles.” Tim has recently presented at the Long Con 2019 and the (ISC)2 Security Congress 2019.
This nomination, however, focuses primarily on the work that Tim has done in support of NDSU’s cybersecurity educational programs.
Tim has given multiple presentations on cybersecurity careers and technical topics.
Tim was also integral to the launch of NDSU’s leading ‘Hack NDSU’ program. Hack NDSU gives students real penetration testing experience by allowing them to perform authorized ethical hacking of the NDSU network and server systems. Students had the option of performing testing on their own, under supervision, or following along with the penetration testing professionals. Tim led one day of the event and demonstrated professional penetration testing techniques.
