He has conducted over 100 penetration tests involving external networks, internal networks, web application assessments, mobile devices, physical assessments, SCADA systems, and more. Tim’s recent publications have included “A New Age of NFS Mining” and “Shot Fired From 5,000 Miles.” Tim has recently presented at the Long Con 2019 and the (ISC)2 Security Congress 2019.

This nomination, however, focuses primarily on the work that Tim has done in support of NDSU’s cybersecurity educational programs.

Tim has given multiple presentations on cybersecurity careers and technical topics.

Tim was also integral to the launch of NDSU’s leading ‘Hack NDSU’ program. Hack NDSU gives students real penetration testing experience by allowing them to perform authorized ethical hacking of the NDSU network and server systems. Students had the option of performing testing on their own, under supervision, or following along with the penetration testing professionals. Tim led one day of the event and demonstrated professional penetration testing techniques.
