Overview

Victor Shadare is a highly accomplished IT professional with over 8 years IT Infrastructure support and Network Management. This technical foundation has enabled him to build a successful career in Information and Cyber Security over the last 12 years. Currently serving as the Head of Cyber Security at Condé Nast since 2020, Victor is known for building high-performing, highly technical teams that deliver comprehensive security services to both internal stakeholders and external customers.

Victor held various impressive positions at many impactful companies including a hardware engineer at a startup, technical support at an IT organization providing services to the financial sector, network management for a pharmaceutical company, and Information Security at several financial services and software companies. Some of his key career highlights before coming to his current role were redesigning and managing total network and internet services refresh as well as leading successful PCI DSS and ISO27001 compliance.

At Condé Nast, Victor created the first global cyber security function and brought the previously outsourced Security Operations Centre in-house, saving the firm thousands of dollars. He built three teams dedicated to delivering his vision: provide services across the 8 cybersecurity domains and align Condé Nast to NIST CSF. Through his leadership, he has extended the company’s security reach and capabilities, while fostering a security-first culture across the organization.

Victor is a strong leader who believes in a collaborative approach, empowering his team leaders to own and develop their areas of responsibility by contributing to the strategy and delivery planning. Accomplishments

- Victor quickly identified the key risks and threats to Condé Nast upon joining and decided to align with NIST CSF. He identified it as the most appropriate framework for providing immediate tactical solutions to security issues while building a longer-term strategy.


- Victor brought Condé Nast’s Security Operations Centre in-house, saving significant costs for the organization and, within just one year, improved our monitoring and response capability from an initial 8 x 5 service into 3/12 of the markets we operate in, to a 24 x 7 x 365 covering all twelve markets. Our Security operations team has specialized in several key areas of security operations, including threat management, enabling skills and overall capabilities to remain a high-performing team. In 2024 alone the 9-person security operations team dealt with more than 7000 incidents and increased user endpoint resilience by 60% through security tool enhancements and tuning. We also identified over 27000 Indicators of Compromise (IOCs) and decreased phishing-related incidents due to security awareness training improvements and simulated phishing programs.


- Victor initiated key governance structures, including forming working groups and oversight committees in Application Security and Information Security, plus leading program improvements for cybersecurity. All of these structures established key reporting metrics as well. Our Application Security program saw a 60% improvement in developing, deploying, and maintaining numerous applications provided to our millions of customers, both B2B and B2C. Our Information Security Management program delivered an Information Security Management System (ISMS) that underpins our security governance, delivering policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure we continue to do business securely.
