Overview

Software containers are lightweight virtual machines with much leaner system requirements. Containers let you pack more computing workloads onto a single server and rev up capacity for new computing jobs in a split second. In theory, that means organizations can buy less hardware, build/rent less data center space, and hire fewer people to manage that gear – hence their immense popularity. However, as is always the case with disruptive new technologies, they also introduce new, unique security risks.

Aqua Security has developed the industry’s most comprehensive container security platform that enables enterprises to secure their virtual container environments from development to production, accelerating container adoption and bridging the gap between DevOps and IT security.

It’s flagship solution, called the Aqua Container Security Platform, provides full visibility into container activity, allowing organizations to detect and prevent suspicious activity and attacks in real time. Integrated with container lifecycle and orchestration tools, the Aqua platform provides transparent, automated security while helping to enforce policy and simplify regulatory compliance.

Aqua launched its platform in May 2016, and already has several blue chip companies as paying customers. In October 2016 it announced $9 million in Series A funding, in a round led by Microsoft Ventures, with seed investors TLV Partners and Shlomo Kramer also participating in the round.

With customer momentum, strong R&D and money in the bank, Aqua is strongly positioned for growth. With companies such as Goldman Sachs, BNY Mellon and others publicly doubling down on their use of virtual containers to build mission critical applications, Aqua is enabling companies to “bake” security into and throughout the application development process. The result is that the next generation of enterprise applications will be inherently more secure, with automated, enforceable security best practices literally woven into the fabric of enterprise applications.

How we are different

Aqua deserves recognition for:

Coming to market in advance of mass adoption of virtual containers with a solution that is able to support the needs of very large enterprises with mature security programs.

Aqua also deserves recognition for its commitment to bridge the gap between DevOps and Security. The company's roots are in security, but it realizes that for security to "shift left," it needs the support and buy in of DevOps teams. A quick scan of it’s blog (http://blog.aquasec.com/) and you can see it takes that responsiblty seriously.

Being the first company to recognize that container security must be dynamic and simple to manage if it is to succeed, and that current approaches that advocate a multitude of manual configuration settings and tools will simply not work in a highly fluid containers and DevOps environment.
