Amanda Fennell is the Chief Security Officer (CSO) and Chief Information Officer (CIO) at global legal and compliance technology company, Relativity. Amanda joined the Relativity team in 2018 as CSO and her responsibilities expanded to include the role of CIO in 2021. In her role, Amanda is responsible for championing and directing security strategy in risk management and compliance practices as well as building and supporting Relativity’s information technology. Amanda also serves as executive sponsor of Relativity’s ESG initiative and oversees the program as a whole. Additionally, she hosts Relativity’s Security Sandbox podcast, which looks to explore and explain the unique links between non-security topics and the security realm. Relativity is passionate about its culture of security to ensure its data (and its customers’ and partners’ data) is secure.

She and her team were recognized as 2021 CSO50 award winners and received a 2021 Cybersecurity Breakthrough innovation award. Prior to joining Relativity, Amanda served as the global head of cyber response and digital forensics at Zurich Insurance Company. Amanda received her Master’s in Forensic Science in the field of Digital Forensics: High-Technology Crime Investigation at the George Washington University.

Accomplishments

• She’s dedicated to improving the security space as a, CSO, CIO, professor and podcaster. When Amanda's not directing Relativity's tech and security strategy, she still dedicates her time and lends her knowledge to the security space. She's an IT professor at Tulane, security podcaster and thought leader serving as an expert commentator for industry events and authoring articles for respected trade publications.
• She uses her platforms to embed a passion and growth mindset in security. Amanda takes an unconventional leadership approach. She encourages her team to apply their passions to their everyday work - a topic she explores on her podcast, Security Sandbox. Her team mulls over topics like King Arthur when they approach management tactics, considers predatory versus prey in Israeli combat when they look at events in cloud logging and can apply Marvel movie quotes to steps to building a better security culture. She takes a unique approach to how she approaches work and life; she calls it work+life grace. Work+life grace embraces being invested in our personal and professional lives each day and each moment and being cognizant of tradeoffs that come with investing in both of those commitments.
• She’s trailblazing the way for security in legal tech. One of Amanda’s most notable accomplishments is establishing Relativity’s Calder7 security team – the largest security team in legal tech stationed around the globe. What was once a vision is now a fully developed team which houses 55+ security professionals who protect Relativity’s security fortress so the data of customers and employees remains protected. Amanda championed Relativity’s Threat Intelligence Feed, the only security feed dedicated to the legal tech industry. The feed is a free and user-friendly tool providing organizations with greater awareness of security threats.
