Overview

First hired as the Chief Operating Officer at Bugcrowd in August of 2022, Dave Gerry was later appointed as the Chief Executive Officer in November of 2022. In his role as CEO, Gerry has expanded the Bugcrowd platform in the market and led the company to historic performance in multiple key areas.
Gerry’s leadership has amounted to the company’s most recent funding round announced in February of 2024. Bugcrowd secured a $102 million in strategic growth financing to scale its AI-powered crowdsourced security platform offerings globally. Led by General Catalyst, with participation from longtime existing investors Rally Ventures and Costanoa Ventures. This investment will support Bugcrowd’s continued growth across EMEA, APAC, and the US, fund continued innovation in the Bugcrowd Platform to broaden and deepen the application of the crowd, our data, and AI, and enable the pursuit of strategic M&A opportunities to provide even greater value to clients, partners, and the hacker community. Over the next three years, Bugcrowd aims to more than quadruple in size and solidify the company’s position as the market-maker, category leader, and go-to platform for crowdsourced security.
Rebuilding and aligning the Bugcrowd leadership team to prioritize company goals was a central focus for Gerry. Taking a holistic approach, Gerry oversaw the appointment of 13 strategic executives across all departments of the company including revenue, sales, engineering, operations, marketing, and human resources. With Gerry at the helm, this rebuilt team aligned around new company goals, planning accountability efforts built up across departments. This reinvigorated team and ambitious company goals has led directly to the company’s success achieved over the previous year.

Accomplishments

In the company’s FY23, Bugcrowd saw the company’s growth rate return to over 30% and achieve a 90% Gross Revenue Retention from existing customers. Bugcrowd has added more than 200 clients to its roster, including OpenAI, T-Mobile, Rapyd, and ExpressVPN, bringing the total number of clients to nearly 1,000. The company has also added nearly 100 new people to its staff, grown the overall business more than 40% and the Pentest as a Service (PTaaS) business nearly 100% year-over-year. Expansion into worldwide markets remained a central focus of the company throughout the previous year. This led to historic quarters for the company including a 105% growth year to year in APAC and 78% growth year to year in EMEA in the first quarter of the year.
Gerry rebuilt the Bugcrowd leadership team, which included the appointment of 13 new executives across departments and aligned company priorities, goals, and accountability that rejuvenated the organization as a whole and led to historic performance for the company in the market. In the past year, Bugcrowd won notable customers from the very highest ranks of the worldwide tech world including OpenAI, Google, and T-Mobile.
Under Gerry’s leadership, Bugcrowd remained a major player in the greater security community. Key Bugcrowd activities included joining in dissent against the UK Computer Misuse Act in March of 2023, participation in the Hacking Policy Council, and leadership in the Election Security Forum. All in all, Gerry’s leadership at Bugcrowd has led to the company to fire on all cylinders. Revamped management, growth and the market, and continued leadership as a security and technology leader has jettisoned the company to a new level in the world of cybersecurity.
