Overview

iProov Genuine Presence Assurance is being used by governments worldwide to confirm the identity of online citizens in a way that is highly secure and very easy to use.

The unique, patented technology is being used by the US Department of Homeland Security, the UK Home Office, the UK National Health Service (NHS), the Singapore Government and the Estonian government.

The uses cases for iProov in government are extensive. A citizen might need to apply for benefits, or for a visa, or for a driver’s license. Instead of an in-person identity check, the user can apply from the comfort of their own home using a mobile device or computer. For maximum inclusivity, a kiosk option can also be provided for use in government buildings or unsupervised locations.

The citizen is asked to scan their passport or other approved document with the camera on their mobile device or computer. They then scan their face in a process that takes a few seconds. The face scan is matched to the photo in the document to confirm that the online user is the right person. A colored illumination during the scan checks that the user is a real person (and not a photo or mask being shown to a device camera) and that they are authenticating right now.

This very simple, very secure use of biometrics replaces the need for an in-person identity check and protects against fraud, identity theft and other online criminal activities. The pandemic of 2020 proved that identity verification must be possible online, even for the most secure processes such as renewing a driver’s license or accessing health records. The number of people ‘iProoving’ themselves to authenticate worldwide increased by 549%, making 2020 a record year for the company.
