Tamer Hassan, the co-founder and CEO of White Ops, had been tracking a smallish botnet that transformed into the largest botnet ever discovered, named 3ve. In just a few months it had created more than 10,000 counterfeit websites, churned out up to 40,000 new IP addresses per day to generate fake traffic and reap the ad revenue. In addition, 3ve had infected and compromised more than 1.7 million devices owned by everyday users and corporations. Through Tamer’s leadership, leveraging the White Ops Bot Mitigation Platform, he took on a lead role to collaborate with the FBI, Google, Facebook and many other partners in the takedown of 3ve, one of the largest botnets ever defeated. Accomplishments

1) Industry Collaboration - for the first time, collaboration between law enforcement and the private sector worked together to takedown the largest botnet in history in record time. It has set a precedent on how collective security can take the bad actors down


2) Disrupting the economics of cybercrime with real consequences - This wasn't about stopping the bad actors on a temporary basis (stopping them today, only to have them show up again tomorrow somewhere else), this was about stopping the botnet organization permanently and putting several leaders in prison with 40 year terms. Once the botnet was taken down, bad traffic went to zero within hours. By only having real consequences and making the cost of cybercrime too high, will we win.


3) White Ops is a 150 person company that Tamer leads. Tamer took on a lead role with some of the largest organizations in the world to take down the bad guys.
