Overview
iProov Genuine Presence Assurance is transforming the way that government agencies provide individuals with access to online services.
Secure biometric face verification enables even the most sensitive services to be delivered online, conveniently and inclusively.
Government agencies globally struggle with online identity authentication and verification. Immigration teams must provide entry visas to the right people. Finance departments must issue tax or support payments without physically seeing people. If they can’t accurately verify individuals’ identities online, they could lose taxpayers’ money to imposters and criminal networks.
The U.S. state DMVs also need to verify identity digitally, as they move processes online.
iProov’s Genuine Presence Assurance helps governments to verify identity online in a convenient and inclusive way for the user, while maximizing security. The individual scans their driver’s license or other document with their mobile device or computer. They scan their face. The face scan is matched to the document photo to confirm it’s the right person. An illumination of colors during the scan confirms the user is a real person (eg not a photo) and authenticating right now.
This very simple, very secure use of biometrics replaces the in-person check and protects against fraud and other cybercrime.
iProov’s patented technology is used by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, a number of state DMVs, the UK Home Office, the Australian Taxation Office, and the Singapore and Estonian governments.

How we are different
- Simplicity, convenience and inclusion: government agencies must deliver online services that are available to all individuals. Other authentication tools (such as passwords) are hard to remember. Other biometric authentication solutions ask the user to follow instructions and move or read out words. Genuine Presence Assurance uses passive authentication: the user simply faces the camera on their device and the scan is completed within seconds to deliver a secure authentication. It works on mobile, web, and kiosk.
- Security against deepfakes and other synthetic media: other 'liveness' solutions use face verification to confirm that an online user is the right person and that they are probably real. Only Genuine Presence Assurance can detect digital injected attacks using deepfake videos or other synthetic media, which is where the real threat to biometric authentication lies. It is also cloud based, ensuring that even if a computer or device is compromised the biometric check is not at risk. The iProov Security Operations Center also provides threat intelligence for iProov's biometric assurance, making it highly resilient to the evolving threat landscape. In iProov’s latest Threat Intelligence report, in H2 of 2023, we saw 5x the number of digital injected attacks against ‘normal’ presentation attacks (where an attacker holds a photo in front of a camera to gain access to a system).
